END THE READING CRISIS:

Prioritize Reading, Writing, Math!

The latest reading scores are out – and they’re devastating. Just released, the latest results from the National Assessment of Educational Progress show just 24% of Michigan 4th graders are proficient in reading – well below the national average. The number is the same for 8th graders. Only 24% are proficient readers. Less than 1 in 4.

In fact, 31 states scored higher in reading than Michigan. And our kids’ test scores are only getting lower. They’ve dropped since 2022. They’ve absolutely cratered since before Gretchen Whitmer and state public school officials locked kids out of the classroom in 2020.

The news isn’t much better in math.

Only 37% of 4th graders are proficient at math, also lagging behind the national average.

Our kids deserve better and we’re here to demand it.
