Tell Lansing to End the Attack on Public School Students

Earlier this year, Legislators in Lansing joined forces with Governor Whitmer to massively cut funding for Michigan public school students, including over $600 million from teacher pension funds, spending for public school learners, and critically needed mental health funding.

This is the worst time in Michigan history to slash classroom and mental health funding for public school students.

The massive funding cuts for Michigan public school students came just before the release of new student test scores that showed our kids falling farther and faster behind.

According to the latest M-STEP test results, Michigan’s 3rd graders continue to fall behind with only 39.6% proficient in English language arts—down from last year and more than 5% lower than pre-COVID test scores.

Detroit students fared much worse, where only 11.7% of 3rd graders were proficient readers and math proficiency was only 15.1% which is again, lower than before the pandemic.

It’s time to fight back!
